In June 1909 Frederick Handley Page (later Sir) established this company, building a series of monoplanes with crescent-shaped wings inspired by the Austrian designer Jose Weiss. In the First World War the company became well-known through its 0/400 andV/1500 heavy bombers, the former leading to the W8 airliner of 1920, which entered service with Handley Page Air Transport.
