Barry, 05.09.2012 17:17 The DH10 was better armed, flew faster, and twice the bomb load of the contemporary DH9 with the reult that an order was placed for a total of 1291 machines to be built by 7 different manufacturers. With the end of the Great War this contract was curtailed to 220 the majority being the DH10A Amiens III. The aircraft remained in service with the newly created RAF until 1927. reply | Trevor Webb, e-mail, 13.01.2010 05:12 The photograph above shows thw DH10 Amiens IIi with the two Liberty engines in mid gap. This was followed by the DH10A Amiens IIIA with the engines lowered to the lower wing as shown in the drawing. There was also the DH10C Amiens IIIC powered by two Rolls Royce Eagle engines in very enclosed cowlings on the lower wing. All these wre produced in small numbers due to the cancellation of contracts with the end of World War I. There was also the DH3 Amiens I with two pusher Liberty engines. In addition there was the DH3A Amiens II with Eagle engines. These two remained one-off prototypes. reply |
