Barry, 18.11.2015 18:40 There were 3 variants of the Ferret produced. The first was a three seater designed for the Fleet Air Arm specification 37 /22 for a reconnaissance aircraft and was powered by a 400 h.p. Armstrong Siddley Jaguar IV engine. The navy were not interested so Fairey decided to submit it to the R.A.F. for their requirement for a general purpose biplane. The span was extended by 9" and the engine was replaced with a 425 h.p. Bristol Jupiter. This was the Ferret II and this in turn was superceded by the two seat Ferret III. Neither aircraft was ordered into production. reply |
