| Following its experience with the  series of reconnaissance aircraft, Aviatik produced the C.I in 1917. Like the B.III, it had a single long cockpit for the pilot (forward) and the observer but was more heavily armed with one forward-firing machine-gun and one rear-mounted gun. Powered by either a 138kW or 149êW Austro-Daimler engine, the C.I had a very reasonable performance and was built in considerable numbers by five companies. Only its inherent structural weakness prevented it from receiving the acclamation that might otherwise have come its way. Nevertheless, it remained operational until the end of the war.
