It's a pity that Lockheed Corp. didn't install a British Armstrong Siddeley Mamba turboprop engine, instead of piston engines. The Mamba's firsts run was in 1946 and it was rated at 1000-1200 hp. Also see A W Appolo with 4 Mambas with extremely nice engine installations. Though I've read there were endless engine troubles and only two Appolos were built, flying up to 1957.

More correctly, the Saturn was cancelled because it couldn't compete with the glut of C-47s /DC-3s that were suddently released into the civil market after the end of World War II. You could buy several cheap surplus C-47s for the price of one new Saturn.
