Ulf Claréus, e-mail, 11.02.2018 17:16 It's a pity that Lockheed Corp. didn't install a British Armstrong Siddeley Mamba turboprop engine, instead of piston engines. The Mamba's firsts run was in 1946 and it was rated at 1000-1200 hp. Also see A W Appolo with 4 Mambas with extremely nice engine installations. Though I've read there were endless engine troubles and only two Appolos were built, flying up to 1957. reply | deaftom, e-mail, 02.06.2013 07:12 More correctly, the Saturn was cancelled because it couldn't compete with the glut of C-47s /DC-3s that were suddently released into the civil market after the end of World War II. You could buy several cheap surplus C-47s for the price of one new Saturn. reply |
