Klaatu83, e-mail, 07.07.2012 15:49 Designed as a multi-role aircraft (bomber /long-range fighter /reconnaissance), this airplane was supposedly superior to the Breda 88 and the Caproni 311, both of which the Italian authorities ordered instead! The Italian Air Force only bought ten of these aircraft, which operated out of Sicily for a while with a single squadron, mainly for convoy escort and long-range reconnaissance. Later they were employed as high-speed transports between Italy and Germany. reply | Antonio, e-mail, 06.05.2009 23:43 This plane was designed by Celestino Rosatelli,it was intended as a heavy fighter and recon;he operated on Boccadifalco airfield,in Palermo,Sicily. reply | 3VI, e-mail, 17.11.2007 12:17 Note on armament: 4 mgs (12,7 mm) only planned before production but never mounted because of inaceptable weight on nose. Definitive solulution: 2 x 12,7 on nose + 1 x 12,7 on turret. Plane was used mostly as light transport and recon. reply |
