| The Me 309 was designed as a replacement for the Bf 109,
already in 1940, but was assigned a low priority. The Me 309
was advanced in concept, with tricycle landing gear, a
pressurized concept, and cannon armament. The Me 309 was never
satisfactory, and especially the nosewheel was a weak point:
many photographs show the Me 309 with its nose in the ground.
Four were built before the RLM cancelled the project.

Jerry Eilerman, e-mail, 15.03.2024 23:56 Hello, I have a question. Some Bf-309 diagrams have rounded protrusions on the trailing edges of the wings (about halfway down the length of the wing). What are these? They do not seem connected to the gun or landing gear, I can only think they are extra fuel tanks, but I have never seen any placed there. Please help if you have the time. I have a PDF file but do not see a place to attack it.
