| The Nord 262 airliner, in the same class as the Fokker F.27 Friendship, started life as the Max Holste MH.250, which first flew in 1949 with twin piston engines. This was followed by a turboprop-powered variant, the MH.260, which flew in July 1960. Due to lack of orders, production ended after only 10 aircraft had been
built; however, in 1961 the project was taken over by Nord Aviation, who developed an improved and more powerful version, the Nord
262. The company subsequently produced 100 Nord 262A, B, C and D Models.

larry story, e-mail, 18.04.2013 10:41 Worked fo lake Centrall airlines at Indianapolis from '65 to '68.As a mechanic. Remember the first delivery of these turds around ' 67. Removed theferry tanks and installed the interier seats and sent them on their merry way into our routs.
The terbometco baston engines ( we called them trouble makin basterds ) Had a nasting habbit of exploding in flight due to a continues problem with the water egection system.
One threw debres into the cabin and seriusly tore up a passenger. ( Never stand or sit in the plane of rotation )
They were supposed to replace our fleet of dc3's. Then the Nords were grounded and we had to pull up our parked dc3'c (12) pull them into the hanger, remove all the burd nests and get them back into our fleet again. After a fatal crash of one of our Convair 580's Lake central went belly-up and was bought out by Allegany. They were stuck with the Nords and the last I heard of them they painted them purple and finally junked them in faver of the Fokker f27 Good riddence to them. reply |

I remember seeing an airline called Rouseau Aviation using them on their routes to Jersey (Channel Islands) during the 1970s. Not sure whether Rouseau Aviation are still going. reply | ROCKER JEAN, e-mail, 01.12.2010 17:41 Sorry, but you must change this information: CREW: 3 - 2 x pilot and 1 x cabin crew. Hello, I saw while researching a DC 3 history that you worked for Lake Central. N45335 was my first airplane flight at about a year old. I have an Honored captains license. My dad who worked for Lake Central told me the horror stories of the Nord 262. I actually have a Nord 262 coffee cup. And it still works LOL. Lester Castner was a radio tech. in Indy and became supervisor of telecommunications. Dad quit cause we didnt want to move to Pittsburg.
