Miles M.100 Student

The M.100 Student is outside the basic Miles Aircraft history, since it was a private venture by F. G. and George Miles started in 1953. A two-seat side-by-side all-metal jet trainer, the Student was powered by a 400kg thrust Turbomeca Marbore turbojet and flew on 15 May 1957. Miles had hoped to secure an RAF order, which in the event went to the Jet Provost, and the Student did not go into production. The Student was subsequently proposed for several training orders, but without success.

Thanks for your reply Loudon. I have a DVD of your Student flying at the world model jet championships. Not the best outcome, but a very nice looking model. Great the way other modellers pitched in to help, it says something about the modelling community. My plan to build a Student stalled when I became ill, but I am a lot better now. Sad to hear of Derek Emsley passing, I had some contact with him & Marion when I started researching. They, along with Ken Fostekew & others were very helpful.
Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Eric.

Clive B, I remember seeing the flight when I was in the Witterings, took off from the Thorny Island NS facility.
Does anyone know if the construction planes-drawings exist anywhere?. Today with the newer small high thrust turbines avaialable from Garret etc and the new composite /alloys for fabrication would make an excellent small commuter jet plus would be very economical.
Let me know as I used to work for Vickers /BAC /BAE years ago.

This aircraft was used for resonance and acoustic tests with an extended tailpipe nearly reaching between the fins. It was damaged in a forced landing when the intake collapsed and was sucked into the engine.

As young lad, I remember seeing Mr George Miles fly the Student during a 'Fly In' day at Shoreham back in the fifties.{1955 possibly}
