Klaatu83, e-mail, 05.03.2011 16:23 Originally intended to replace the Fairey Battle light bomber, this airplane was re-modeled into a two-seat carrier-based fighter and became the Fairey Fulmar. reply | Peter, e-mail, 04.11.2010 04:55 In 1936 my father(15 /16 yo)accompanied his uncle to Manchester for a job interview. While walking passed a factory with an open gate they saw a modern aircraft sitting unaccompanied and walked in. They looked all round and touched it. Eventually a guard came out and told them off because it was a military secret. Great uncle Bob said if such a secret why was it just sitting there in the open. The guard mumbled and ordered them to leave. Dad has always believed it was a Fulmar, which he was later to see in action in the Med, but the date suggests it was this aircraft. reply |
