| Th Nipper was designed by Ernest Tips, an engineer with the Belgian Avions Fairey Company. His design criteria was to build a rugged, easy-lo-fly single-seat light aeroplane which could be produced or home built. Avions Fairey produced the Nipper in several marques up until 1962, by which time 78 had been built. Cobelavia (and later Nipper Aircraft) acquired rights to build the type in the United Kingdom and produced a further 30 examples. A number of one-off enhancements (often engine or range improvements) have since been made to operational examples.

Alistair Crooks, e-mail, 20.01.2022 23:08 I last flew this aircraft out of EMA in the UK in 1970. It was operated by the Nipper Flying School who had the licence to build them at that time. Be assured it was a single seater!
Shortly afterwards Nipper went into liquidation but it was a fun experience the Nipper but crosswinds were challenging!!
ADC reply | Jonathan Young, e-mail, 02.06.2020 00:35 The aircraft in the photo belong to my dad in 1970 to 1974, based on a private farm strip just south of Bristol. reply | Bob Kusterer, e-mail, 02.12.2013 22:30 I flew a Nipper in Belgium in 1967. At the time it was the first single seater I had ever flown. Just get in it and go; a unique experience then. Since then I have flown many single seaters; everything from gliders to fighter planes, but the Nipper was my first; you always remember your first. reply | juezui, 18.06.2011 06:43 Specification corection: PASSENGER 0. Look at the photo, where would the PAP be seated? reply |
| Johan Runfeldt, e-mail, 18.05.2011 17:00 Actually the Nipper was stressed to take +6G to -3G loads. So at least I would regard it as more than "semi-"acrobatic. reply | Paul Straub, e-mail, 22.11.2010 22:46 The Tipsy Nipper was classified as semi-acrobatic. Although underpowered it was capable of loops, rolls, and other acrobatics when begun from a dive to pick up speed. reply | Leon PESCHE, e-mail, 20.01.2010 20:26 Specification corection: PASSENGER 0.
